A Few of My Favorites for Winter Locations

So, I’ve moved, yes!  Oh wait, I moved from Boston to London, so similar climate, a different type of cold and no snow.. interesting..

Time to watch what mother’s do here in London and learn and adjust.

Boston/Vermont winters in US are cold/freezing, sometimes unbearable for little kids, especially in sub zero temperatures.   BUT you get snow, so a reward from a kids perspective. In London during the winter, I gather it will be warmer than back home however what I’ve noticed is that is rains a lot and there are a lot of cloudy days.  Also when it is cold it is very humid, so it feels colder than the temperature might imply.  Needless to say, my kids have been sick for awhile because like home, the weather fluctuates and some days it’s 60 F and others its 45 F, so we shall see. Who knows, I’m trying my best, could be doing it wrong but these things below are what I’m using at the current moment!

OK so here are a few things I love and swear by for Winter:

  1. If you have a baby, get this car seat cover, to avoid over dressing your baby in the winter, worked wonders for my baby who was born in the middle of #bombcyclone storm that hit New England at the beginning of the year.  So we didn’t go out that much but when we did, I had this on our car seat!  The best feature, is a built in blanket, that is attached so the baby can’t pull it over their head (safety!).
    • Jolly Jumper Sneak a Peek
    • Best recommendation – I saw a mom using it during the winter and she swore by it, was the best purchase.. Very practical for mamas!
  2. 7A.M. Stroller Gloves – This is a must for any mom who has a stroller and will be walking outside with their stroller/buggy/pram.  They are so warm and it is one less thing you have to remember walking out the door!
  3. A Stroller Footmuff (took me forever to realize what this was called) – Every London Mum has one of these on her stroller.  When we first moved here, I obviously didn’t have one but this winter I’m not going to be stupid, because you never want to be without a blanket.  These are also great because blankets fall off, footmuff’s don’t!! I got the ones with a hood, because obviously my baby hates wearing hats, so this ensures she will have at least a little covering.
    • There are many of these, every buggy has one, but I got the 7AM Enfant 212 Evolution – google it.  It fits right into the buggy/stroller and has a wrap around strap to make sure it doesn’t fall down, you can also adjust the bottom for whatever size child you have in there.
  4. Hats – I love a good pom hat, and let’s be honest I have so many of them from many companies.  Here are my top 3, once your kid is 2 they can probably wear your hats!  My baby and 3 year old wear my hats, yes they have their own, but sometimes it’s whatever is closest!
    • Binge Knitting for Mama or Baby Binge (@babybinge) – I’ve followed them for awhile, made in Mexico, they do make baby stuff or kids stuff (follow them on Insta). Order baby things off of their instagram through Direct Message!!
    • Shit That I Knit – These are made in Peru, they have a whole Mommy and Me section (linked above), as well as the typical pom hat!
  5. Slipper Socks – I love warm socks and this year, we all got Mocci’s, a Swedish company, for me if the Swedes use them then it has to be good.. There are so many great baby/kid companies that are Swedish!!  Other companies make them yes, but they call them Swedish Slipper Moccasins, if they are Swedish, shouldn’t you get them from the source.

I haven’t figured out gloves yet for my kids (gladly welcome practical suggestions, knowing kids hate things on their hands and like to throw everything) and I don’t think I’ll need a snowsuit this year but who knows!
