I’ve mentioned before that I’m a sugar addict and as I am trying to lose weight I’m becoming increasingly aware of what triggers me to run to carbs or sugar.
Stress for sure is there, no sleep and my kids just blatantly not listening to me, leaving me helpless and in search of carbs which is basically sugar!
But I’ve been stressed since I was 3, which I know because I’ve had a nail biting/picking problem since then.. so I can’t say it all started when I had kids, cause that is a lie!
My sugar habits have evolved based on the country I’m living in but here are the main ones in the 3 main countries I frequent and how my relationship started with them!
USA: I love donuts, I will never apologize for this! Strawberry frosted from Dunkin Donuts (I mean they aren’t good, unless there is a lot of frosting on them, I specifically ask for the one with the most frosting)..
- How it started: For as long as I can remember going to Dunkin on the weekends with my dad was a tradition or bringing home Dunkin on the weekends always happened. In that I just always had a strawberry frosted!
- Now: Wherever I go, I always try their donuts, never strawberry frosted tho that is saved for Dunkin.
- Best: Donut Bank in Evansville, IN and Leucadia Donut Shoppe in Encinitas, CA
UK (London): Chocolate, I knew I was in trouble when I moved here cause I love Cadbury chocolate!
- How it Started: The love affair started when I came through the UK in High school for a Lacrosse tour… my biggest downfall are Cadbury creme eggs and mini eggs.. I have no control and literally can’t stop..
- Now: We moved here during the lead up to Easter and I was scared that creme eggs were always going to be available in the UK, but luckily they are not the common distribution so I only have to worry about Easter time here like anywhere else!
- Best: When I came in high school and again in college I love the McDonald’s Cadbury Creme Egg McFlurry, but since living here every time I went to find it during the summer, the machine wasn’t working or they weren’t serving it so I saw it as a sign to just NOT have it.
Spain: Turron!! If you haven’t had this you aren’t living!! It’s amazing and the best!
- How it started: When I started dating my husband and went over in May 2013! It comes in liquid form on ice cream or hard (my favorite).
- Now: My favorite is creamy turron in blocks, but it comes in many forms!
- Best: Yes it is sugar, but what I love about it when I can control the portions I eat (haha never) is that the ingredients are usually just: Honey, sugar, egg whites, almonds or other nuts.. Simple!!
Other downfalls include Candy corn in the US which I’m realizing isn’t sold in the UK so watch out border patrol I’m bring it back soon!!
In my house we call it “going south”, so if someone is in a bad mood or “going south”, for me most likely sugar can solve it.. So if you see me “going south” ever just give me candy and I’ll come back to you in a happy way!
- I realize that this is wrong and sugar is bad for me but for the time being until I look like a model (which is never) then I’m still going to eat sugar (in moderation!!)
